Description

The Pacific Coast Amateur is one of the oldest and most prestigious amateur golf championships in North America, originally established in 1901. The modern iteration began in 1967 at Seattle Golf Club after a revival driven by western U.S. golf associations aiming to showcase elite amateur talent from the region. The tournament has a rich history of attracting top amateur players who often go on to successful professional careers. The championship is played over 72 holes of stroke play without a cut, typically contested over four days at rotating elite courses along the Pacific Coast. Alongside the individual competition, the Morse Cup is contested as a 36-hole team event among member associations of the Pacific Coast Golf Association, which includes 15 member associations from the U.S. and Canada. The current perpetual trophy is named after Dr. Ed Updegraff, a long-time volunteer and standout amateur who helped shape the tournament. The Pacific Coast Amateur provides a significant platform for top amateurs in the western U.S. and Canada, often being a springboard to national and international amateur and professional success.
