Description

The U.S. Senior Amateur Championship is organized by the United States Golf Association (USGA) and is among the most prestigious senior amateur golf tournaments globally. The 2025 championship will be held at Oak Hills Country Club in San Antonio, Texas, from August 23 to 28. The competition begins with 36 holes of stroke play over two days, after which the field is cut to the low 64 players who advance to match play. Match play is conducted in single-elimination format, with rounds of 18 holes each leading to a final 18-hole championship match. The event typically hosts around 312 of the top senior amateur golfers aged 55 and older, who must hold a USGA Handicap Index of 5.4 or lower to qualify. Entry requires submitting an application by the deadline and qualifying through sectional tournaments held at various locations. The champion receives a gold medal, the Frederick L. Dold Trophy for one year, and exemptions to future USGA championships including the U.S. Open and U.S. Senior Open.
