Description

The Memorial Amateur Championship is a prestigious 54-hole scratch stroke play event held annually at Ancil Hoffman Golf Course in Carmichael, California, typically over Memorial Day weekend. The tournament is limited to 90 eligible contestants and features a cut to the low 30 players and ties after 36 holes. Players compete in groups of three and, if there is a tie for the championship after 54 holes, a three-hole playoff on holes #9, #10, and #18 determines the winner. If still tied, a sudden-death playoff on the same holes follows. The event attracts top amateur golfers including collegiate players and mid-amateurs, with exemptions and tournament director approvals used for entry. The championship has a $1,000 merchandise prize for the winner and prides itself on honoring Memorial Day and the sacrifices of service members.
