Wisconsin Match Play Championship
About
The Wisconsin Match Play Championship is run by the Wisconsin State Golf Association and is considered the premier match play event in the state. The tournament features a round-robin group stage, followed by knockout bracket play. Sixty-four qualifiers are divided into 16 groups of four, each player facing the other three in their group for a total of three group matches. The winner of each group advances to the Round of 16, which becomes a single-elimination bracket until the champion is crowned. All players participate in an 18-hole stroke play qualifying round for seeding. The field typically features 64 competitors, with the top 16 seeds taken from the previous year’s WSGA Men’s Player of the Year Rankings, and the remaining spots filled by local qualifiers. Players must have a WSGA Handicap Index of 9.4 or less to be eligible for the championship.
