The Victoria Cup is an annual amateur golf match-play competition between the national teams of Uganda and Kenya, named after Lake Victoria. The 2023 edition was held at the Uganda Golf Club, Kampala, with the official practice and flag-raising on 31 January, followed by the competition from 1–3 February. Kawowo Sports +2 Kawowo Sports +2 The format closely mirrors that of the Ryder Cup: over three days, the teams play foursomes (alternate shot), four-ball (better ball) matches, and then a final singles round. For example, Uganda held a qualifying stage in which prospective team members played 72 holes. Nnalubaale Sports A committee led by Dr. Jackson Were, vice president of the Uganda Golf Union, was responsible for organizing the event. Kawowo Sports Historically, the Victoria Cup has become one of East Africa’s key amateur golf fixtures since its inception in 2016, fostering strong sporting rivalry and development in regional golf.
