The Royal Trophy
About
The Royal Trophy was a men's professional team golf tournament held from 2006 to 2013, featuring teams representing Europe and Asia. Each team consisted of eight players, and the competition format included a series of 16 match play matches across three days, comprising foursomes, four-ball, and singles matches. Each match won earned a point for the team, with half a point awarded for tied matches. The team with the highest cumulative points claimed the Royal Trophy. In the event of an 8-8 tie, a sudden-death playoff was used to determine the winner. The tournament was held in Asia and was inspired by the Ryder Cup's format. However, after 2013, the event was discontinued and replaced by the EurAsia Cup organized by the European Tour and Asian Tour.
