The Jacques Leglise Trophy
About
The Jacques Léglise Trophy is an annual under-18 boys' amateur team golf competition between Great Britain & Ireland (GB&I) and the Continent of Europe. Wikipedia +2 European Golf Association +2 First played in 1977, the event traces its legacy back to a similar continental vs GB&I boys match from 1958, and was re-instituted when Jean-Louis Dupont donated the trophy in memory of Jacques Léglise, a former president of both the French Golf Federation and the European Golf Association (EGA). Wikipedia +1 Since 1996, the match has been held as a standalone two-day match, rather than being tied to the Boys’ Amateur Championship. Wikipedia +1 The format involves nine players per team (GB&I and Continent) competing over two days. Wikipedia Each day includes four foursomes matches in the morning and singles matches in the afternoon — currently eight or nine singles on the final afternoon, depending on the year. Wikipedia Players must be under 18 on 1 January of the competition year. Wikipedia The GB&I squad is selected by The R&A, while the Continent of Europe team is selected by the European Golf Association (EGA). European Golf Association +1 Over the years, the Jacques Léglise Trophy has become a prestigious stage for future top professionals — many elite international players (e.g., Sergio García, Luke Donald) have competed in it during their junior careers.
