The 153rd Open Championship, organized by The R&A, took place from July 17 to 20, 2025, at Royal Portrush Golf Club in County Antrim, Northern Ireland. This major championship is contested over 72 holes in a stroke play format across four rounds. The tournament features a field of 156 players who compete over the first two days, after which a cut is made to the top 70 players and ties, allowing them to advance to the final two rounds. Qualification is achieved through exemption categories such as former champions, top-ranked international players, regional qualifiers, and through local and final qualifying events. A three-hole aggregate playoff followed by sudden death if needed determines the winner in case of a tie after 72 holes. Royal Portrush, known for its challenging Dunluce Links, hosted The Open for the third time, offering a prestigious and historic setting for the championship.
