Description

The New Zealand U19 Championship is a prestigious junior golf tournament run by the governing body New Zealand Golf. It is typically held over several days and played in a stroke play format. The event features both boys and girls divisions and includes multiple age brackets, such as Under 19 and Under 16. The competition usually spans 54 holes (three rounds), with a cut after 36 holes for the leading players and ties. Field sizes regularly see roughly 50-60 boys and 20-40 girls competing, depending on the year and venue. To qualify, players must be 16, 17, or 18 years old as of the event’s specified date and possess a handicap index of 8.0 or lower. Entry is by application, and exemptions may be granted for certain high-performing individuals in the national ranking system. The event is staged at notable New Zealand golf clubs and is one of the country’s key development tournaments for promising young golfers.
