Description

The Durham County Matchplay Championship is an amateur golf event organized by the Durham County Golf Union. The championship is contested through match play format consisting of 18-hole singles matches. Teams are made up of five players from recognized golf clubs, playing in a fixed order (1-2-3-4-5) where each player faces the opponent in the corresponding position. Matches are decided by handicap difference, with a maximum handicap of 18 for men and 24 for women. The competition operates on a knockout basis, with each individual match contributing one point and tied matches scoring half a point. Tied overall matches are decided by a sudden-death playoff starting from the hole where the original match ended. Eligible players must be registered club members who have participated in at least one earlier round to qualify for the finals. The event usually includes teams from multiple clubs across the county and progresses through geographically based draws.
