Description

The Africa Region 5 Amateur Championship is a prestigious regional amateur golf competition organized under the Africa Golf Confederation (AGC), featuring national teams from southern African countries such as South Africa, Zambia, Namibia, Eswatini, and Malawi. The tournament typically spans 3 to 4 days and combines individual stroke-play ranking rounds—usually an initial 18-hole round—with team and singles match play formats including foursomes and singles matches. Each participating nation fields teams of four golfers, competing in a format that emphasizes both individual and team performance. The event provides valuable competitive exposure for emerging golf nations in the southern African region and helps develop amateur players' experience at a higher level. The 2025 tournament was won by Team South Africa, with Astin Arthur claiming the individual title, reinforcing South Africa's dominance with their 21st victory in the event's history. The tournament is rotated through the region's golf clubs; in 2023, it was hosted by Lilongwe Golf Club in Malawi.
